‘It’s a police thing’ — nearby cops move in, give Newtown officers Christmas off

The United States does not have a central national police organization, instead it has a very fragmented policing system that more than 15,000 independent police departments take care of their own business in their respective police jurisdictions. National Police officials from other countries often wondered how that works in the United States, given the fragmented nature of the police force, and how different departments collaborated with one another. This is a good example. Collaboration is voluntary, respecting each other and cooperative.
